NOMAD explores the never-before-seen co-design, and subsequent integration, of geodesic lens antennas with memristor-based switching in a single front-end hardware to address the fundamental limitations of current technologies, specifically regarding energy loss and system complexity at high frequencies. The combination of geodesic lens and memristor-based switching will allow for more efficient systems, architectural simplification and scalability.
Transform the telecommunication industry by establishing a new technical foundation for the radio frequency (RF) hardwarerequired by 6G and future XG wireless networks.
GEODESIC LENS ANTENNA: They provide the strongest combination of high efficiency, wide-angle scanning capability, manufacturability, and compatibility with the proposed switching approach. Therefore, advancing geodesic lens towards a reconfigurable front-end architecture capable of efficient beam steering in both elevation and azimuth.
MEMRISTOR-BASED SWITCHES: The goal is to realise highly efficient, compact, and fast switches with switching times below 1ms. This will make them extremely attractive for mmWave antennas and other switch-based electronics due to their non-volatility, low energy consumption, and potential for large-scale integration.
