LEA is a Vinnova project, funded under the Smartare Elektroniksystem framework.
Our society is currently experiencing a worldwide expansion of 5G communication systems where new applications, services and use case scenarios are in continuous transformation. Future further capabilities of our continuously connected society will challenge 5G networks adding more requirements that pushes the evolution towards 6G, where more advanced technological tools will be needed to implement the future wireless systems.
The goal of this project is to investigate how the combination of lens antennas and phased arrays can enhance the performance of the latter compared to when the antenna arrays are used alone, and moreover, analyze the industrial potential of such solutions. With the help of additive manufacturing, we can create innovative and cost-effective lens antennas and have increased freedom of the positioning of the lens, for example directly on top of the antenna array element or integrated inside the radome covering the antenna.
